About Custom and Etched Dustwashers

This area explains the details behind custom dustwashers and how to prepare your artwork for them. This area is split into two major sections so feel free to jump to the section that interests you.

Custom Etched Dustwashers

Custom Dustwashers

Taking stick customization to the next level, the ability to customize your dustwashers will bring a new element to personalizing your stick. How is this accomplished?

  • The art is Laser printed on glossy, durable adhesive material the same way the custom plexi artwork is printed. The ink is vividly fused to the print stock.
  • A clear protective laminate is applied and securely layered onto 1/32" acrylic
  • Acrylic is then Laser cut to the dust washer dimensions of your selection

So if you're ready to tap into your imagination, please download the dustwasher templates here : Photoshop Templates for Artwork and Etching submissions

Setting up your artwork and submitting
Once you've downloaded the Dust washer template you will see the following outline.

DO NOT change the size of the template to fit your artwork. You need to stretch your artwork out to fit the template. Keep all the existing layers as is and give the PSD back to me with your added artwork layer.

Now say you want to use this big happy face for your washer artwork.

Insert a new layer and position your art like so. Adjust and modify as you need. When you're done, upload the PSD back to me with all the layers intact. DO NOT Merge or Flatten all the layers together as I will be removing the outline (but keeping the center dot) when printing. I need the center dot for positioning.

If you don't have Photoshop, you can submit your artwork to me in JPG, TIFF or PNG format and I can stretch the artwork to fit the template along with any simple instructions you have. But please remember I do not do any major graphics modifications/designs as part of this service. Please request help from another if you're looking for very specific artwork catered to your interest.

Once you're done, ZIP or RAR your PSD and submit your file here:  Submit Artwork

And in the "Special Notes" section, note that this is for a Custom Dustwasher submission. That's it, you're done!

Custom Etched Dustwashers

Taking stick customization to yet another level, the ability to custom etch your dustwashers will bring a new element to personalizing your stick. If you are familiar with the "Arrowed Dustwashers", this is basically that but with your own etching.

Setting up your artwork for etching.
Lets say you want to use this Ryu artwork for your etch.

First thing to do is greyscale the image.

Next, invert/negative the image so it'll turn out something like this.

If you're wondering why the image needs to be inverted, you can read about etchings on plexi here, "About Etchings".
After you've inverted, notice the image now has a black background. The laser cutter etches black areas, so in this case the background would end up being etched. To avoid this you have to turn the black background into white so it ends up like so:

If you're not sure how this is done, please look for advice from a graphics developers or google "magic wand" for some techniques.

Now that the image is prepared, download a dustwasher template. Once you've downloaded a Dust washer template of your choosing, you will see the following outline when you open the PSD.

DO NOT change the size of the template to fit your artwork. You need to stretch your artwork out to fit the template. Keep all the existing layers as is and give the PSD back to me with your added artwork layer.

Here is a sample of how this Ryu dustwasher will turn out

Etching directions for black dustwashers are exactly the same. If you want to read more details on etching on black acrylics please read this section: Etching on Opaque Acrylic
